June in Charleston

June in Charleston

How to make the most of those hot, sunny days!

While Charleston in June can be sizzling, there are plenty of ways to beat the heat and enjoy this charming city. Below are some of my favorite ways make some fun summer memories!

Hit the Beach

When the sun is blazing, there's no better place to be than on the sandy shores of Folly Beach or Sullivan's Island. Pack your sunscreen, a good book, and a cooler full of refreshing drinks, and spend the day soaking up the rays or splashing in the waves. I love to either sit back and relax in a beach chair or go for a walk searching for shells. With multiple beach options in Charleston, there is an ideal beach experience for everyone!

Explore the Waterfront Park

Charleston's Waterfront Park is a haven of shade and cool breezes on a hot day. I love strolling along the palm tree-lined promenade, taking in the views of the harbor, and watching the children cooling off in the iconic Pineapple Fountain. It's the perfect spot for a leisurely afternoon picnic or just some quiet relaxation. I have such great memories from when my husband and I were dating and would bring sandwiches to the park. After all these years, we still love making time to recreate those moments!

Indulge in a Frozen Treat

When the temperature soars, there's nothing quite like indulging in a delicious frozen treat to cool down. My go-to is Off Track Ice Cream just off of King Street for a scoop of made-from-scratch ice cream. They have so many fun flavors and even offer vegan options! My favorite is a house-made waffle cone with fresh mint chip or key lime pie. Charleston has plenty of sweet options to satisfy any craving.

Take a Historic Home Tour

Charleston is known for its beautiful historic homes, many of which offer guided tours. I enjoy escaping the heat for a couple of hours while learning about the city's rich history and admiring the elegant architecture and lush gardens. Places like the Nathaniel Russell House or the Aiken-Rhett House are especially fascinating. Each tour offers a unique and fascinating glimpse into Charleston's past. My favorite house museum is The Edmonston Alston House!

Visit a Museum or Gallery

Charleston is home to a vibrant art and culture scene with numerous museums and galleries to explore. On a hot day, I like to escape into the air-conditioned comfort of places like the Gibbes Museum of Art or the Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art, where I can admire world-class artwork and learn something new.

These activities never fail to make a hot day in Charleston more enjoyable and memorable!
